MIRAI CODE · The Newest You
To You Who's Afraid of Growing Older
Aging was never losing — it's deepening. And today's you is the newest you yet.
Mirai — a Future Decoder who reads the sounds of your name
You can't quite, honestly, celebrate your birthday. Has "I'm too old now" become a thing you say by habit?
Even when there's something you'd love to try, do you give it up before you begin — with your age for a reason?
In my readings, I meet so many people who have quietly put a lid on their own possibility, telling themselves "it's too late now."
I began the work I do now at fifty-three. Honestly, it isn't that I never thought, "at this age — now, of all times?"
But once I began, I understood: those very days I had spent thinking "why does my life go so wrong?" are the very thing that most supports this work.
Divorced, a single mother, with no child support coming. "Right — I'll give it everything as a full-time employee," I'd work — and then the single-parent allowance was, in turn, almost entirely cut. Work, and work, and life never grew any easier. That exit-less kind of suffering, I know in my own body.
So when someone carrying that same suffering comes to me, I can say — not a surface "that sounds hard," but from the very bottom of my heart: "…I understand. I was there, too." At that one sentence, so many people, all at once, let their tears fall.
The painful things, the sorrowful things — because they happened, I can truly, in the real sense, feel what the person before me feels. — And so, for me, my age, and the pain of my past, are every one of them treasure.
"Too old" may just be the world's ruler
"At your age." "A grown adult, and yet." Have you taken voices like these, somewhere along the way, and made them your own rule — a rope to bind yourself with?
Think of time as something running out, and anxiety comes. But think of it as something you have gathered up, and to grow older is to grow rich.
Today's you is the newest there has ever been
Today's you has stacked up more experience than ever before — the newest you in all your life.
Your wisdom, your kindness, your eye for people — all of it far deeper than in your younger days. That is a fortune, yours alone, that can be won only by giving it time.
The sounds of your name never fade, at any age
The sounds of your name have told the truth of who you are, unchanged, since the day you were born.
However you age, your core does not fade in the least. If anything — for all the experience you've gathered — that sound comes to ring deeper, and richer.
What I am really doing, in every reading
So with those who feel anxious about their age, I take the sounds of their name as our clue, and together we take inventory of all they have cultivated so far.
The hardships, the detours — every one, a drawer in your chest. "I had so many things, all along." When you see that, what lies ahead turns, once more, into something to look forward to.
In the end
To grow older is not to lose, but to deepen.
Today's you is the newest yet. There is no such thing as too late to begin.
